The choir is a section of the 50 Plus Health and Fun Club which meets at Fareham Leisure Centre.
In January 1989 Josie Beckwith recruited the choir from the membership of the Health and Fun Club. The first rehearsal was held on 30th January and shortly afterwards, on 7th March, the choir gave its first public performance in Salisbury City Hall.
Josie continued as MD until 2002
When Josie retired in 2002 Sheila Javes took over as MD.
The Health and Fun Club meets on Monday and Friday mornings but the choir only meets on Fridays. We rehearse in the Dance Studio from 11:35am until 1:15pm.
We sing three or four-part harmony – our repertoire spans songs from the shows and popular songs.
We have about 50 members overall and typically about 40 members attend the Friday mornings rehearsals. New members are always welcome.
The choir mainly sings to charities, retirement associations, luncheon clubs, care homes, and other clubs and societies within the District of Fareham Borough Council. We do not charge a fee but are always pleased to receive donations however small to help with the Choir’s running costs.
Some recent venues have been:
The People Alone Club at Holy Trinity Parish Centre, Fareham.
Stroke Club Anniversary, held the WI Hall in Oak Road, Fareham. Blackbrook House, the Avenue, Fareham. At Christmas we sing in Fareham’s precinct for Marie Curie’s charity.
